Inter-municipal cooperation
- Economy centre (vision of joint development of business zones, technology parks, incubators and other support measures);
- Some technology networks cooperation (within and between branches);
- Cooperation of SMEs through cooperation between R&D and Chambers of Craft and of Economy.
Main challenges
- Low availability of new landfills due to scarcity of land, over-industrialized valleys;
- Many small business zones, Natura 2000, protected areas and farm land;
- Brown fields changing nature (search for innovative solutions);
- Need for strategic rethinking of business zones, roles and support mechanisms;
- Need for inter-municipal approach and strategic rethinking, inter-municipal cooperation and analytic business plans in use, management of land resources for commercial development;
- Synergies between the service and production business areas involved in the pilot project ;
- Raised attractiveness of the region’s commerce, knowledge and technology.
Main problems
- Migration of workers (few “really innovative jobs” in the region);
- Acquisition of suitable land;
- A great deal of protected land with small ownership;
- Getting very innovative experts from other regions (long-term target) not available in short time (strong mechanism needed to attract them – e. g. well-equipped labs, good conditions to master challenges)
- Need for “good region position measures” to attract and maintain innovative SMEs and bigger companies in the region; need to include measures to attract an innovative work force.
Expectations from COMUNIS
- Inter-municipal cooperation and analytic business plans in use, management of land resources for commercial development;
- Synergies between the service and production business areas involved in the pilot project;
- Raised attractiveness of the region’s commerce, knowledge and technology.
